Mobicel, a leading mobile phone and tablet supplier in South Africa, has just launched the Mobicel Air. Measuring at just 5.1mm, it’s one of the slimmest smartphones in the world.
The Air’s smoothly curved edges, glossy chassis, and ultra slim design make it an undeniably attractive phone. It’s also incredibly light to hold, weighing in at an astonishing 97 grams. In fact, it’s so distinctively light and slim that it may well leave people wondering what had to be compromised in order to achieve such a pleasing design.
“Absolutely nothing,” assures Mobicel CEO Ridhwan Khan. “We wouldn’t compromise on anything. Everything we do is about delivering an amazing user experience, and the Air is no exception. It’s fast, it’s feature-rich, and it’s affordable.”
It’s fast. The Mobicel Air is powered by the 1.7GHz octa-core processor, a high-end chipset that makes for seamless web surfing, downloading, live streaming, recording videos and watching movies. The Air’s operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat, also enables faster multitasking than ever before with memory optimisation and touchscreen accuracy and response enhancements.
It’s feature-rich. One of the most immediately noticeable features is the vivid and crisp display thanks to the Air’s 4.8" Super AMOLED touchscreen. The phone also packs an 8MP rear autofocus camera with touch focus, Gesture Shot, and self-timer options as well as real-time filters and an image editor. There’s also a full HD video recorder, and a 5MP front camera for today’s selfie-hungry generation.
Apart from all the must-have features you’d expect in a high-end smartphone like Bluetooth, WiFi capability, and long battery life, the Air is also packed with convenient features like Double Click Wake and Smart Gesture - simply tapping the device twice wakes it from sleep mode; and drawing a series of symbols opens various apps like the camera, messages, and the media interface.
As with all its products, Mobicel put the Air through the paces to make sure it would stand up to daily use. Just some of Mobicel’s standard tests include drop, anti-bending, humidity, battery life, reception, call quality, video playback and mobile web tests.
“We make sure our products survive in the real world. Not just for today, but for tomorrow too. On performance, on reliability, on quality… we deliver products that we know we can stand by.” says Khan.
And for all this, the Air is still an affordable device. Mobicel is steadily growing a reputation as the brand that’s firm on providing an outstanding user experience without attaching outrageous price tags, and with the Mobicel Air retailing at just R3,499, it’s easy to see why.
The launch of Mobicel’s latest smartphone in its Desire Series comes just months after the company celebrated a string of landmark successes. A family run business that began as a leap of faith in 2007, Mobicel signed national distribution deals with Foschini, MTN and Cell C last year.
The Mobicel Air is the company’s latest triumph. Khan says, “It’s a slick looking device with a phenomenal user experience. It’s everything you’d expect from a smartphone… and it’s affordable. It’s a winner.”
The Mobicel Air comes in white and black and is currently available at Cell C and Foschini stores, as well as from Mobicel’s online store on www.mobicell.co.za.
